Aston Martin DBS - 1971

Engine 5.3l V8 Driving RHD Automatic Seats 4 Power 320 BHP

The Car

Designed by William Towns, the DBS was introduced in 1967. The last Aston Martin launched in the David Brown era, it was first unveiled with the straight 6 engine from the DB6.  It was larger than the DB6, and in 1970 the V8 engine around which the DBS was designed was finally ready. Just under 800 examples of both engine variants were built before the DBS was replaced in 1972 by a facelifted car, now known as the Aston Martin V8.

Our car was delivered new to a customer in the UK, and comes complete with a full history file, Aston Martin heritage paperwork the original factory build completion certificate.

Walk-around

Recently repainted in its original platinum grey, the paint is in superb order, and all the brightwork is also in excellent condition.

Get Comfortable

Settle into the the soft leather drivers seat, and adjust the mirrors, and surprisingly, the steering wheel which moves for reach and rake - innovative for 1960s design. The Smiths dials are wonderful to read and lend the cabin a cock-pit like ambience.

The engine fires easily thanks to the automatic choke, and settles into tickover which is a joy to hear, and loud enough to annoy your neighbors. It’s a large motor car, with acres of space for you and your passengers to get comfortable.

The Oily Bits

The DBS V8 is powered by a the famous Aston Martin 5.3l V8 engine. Designed by Tadek Marek who also designed the DBR2 race engine found in the DB4, DB5 and DB6 cars, it went on to power all V8 Aston Martins until 1998.

Our car is highly original, running the correct Bosch mechanical fuel injection system.

The original factory air conditioning works well, as do the original Selectaride rear shocks, which allow ride quality control from the driving seat.

The Driving Experience

This is a right hand drive car with a 3 speed automatic gearbox, making it a relatively easy drive. The powered steering is light & the car is easy to place on the road.  The engine is the tsar of this experience though, and the brutish V8 growl is sure to put a smile open your face.

This is a GT car, designed to get 4 adults and luggage around in speed and style, and 50 years after its first registration, it still delivers.
